:: ::
:: Once again Schattenkult have discovered another gem from Chile. ::
:: This time we got Aittitos, a project consisting of two ::
:: gentlemen. Guitar player and vocalist Idimmu is also active in ::
:: The Last Knell, a band whose latest album I absolutely enjoyed. ::
:: Listening to the Aittitos debut full length ôEmpyreus Elatioö ::
:: several similarities are obvious as both bands offer quite an ::
:: old school take on things, but have enhanced their style by a ::
:: decent amount of obscure details. Comparing the two I would ::
:: argue that Aittitos are maybe a tad rougher with a few death ::
:: metal elements thrown into the mix, but the black metal ::
:: aesthetics are the dominating factor. ::
:: ::
:: The guitars on the whole album combine the malevolence of raw ::
:: and unfiltered black metal with crushing blast beats, ::
:: unleashing a ferocious assault. Both members strike mercilessly ::
:: with all the extreme velocity of the drums and infernal riffs. ::
:: Unleashing an abrasive barrage, the guitars give you an ::
:: impression of utmost brutality. Even with all the savagery in ::
:: their take on black metal Aittitos prove that they are capable ::
:: of writing some well thought-out tunes. The primitive nature of ::
:: this debut is defined by a powerful surge of anger and ::
:: ferocity, even when the tempo slows down at times. ::
:: ::
:: On top of the pummeling blasts and the relentless chords thrown ::
:: at the listener the whole album a constantly sinister ::
:: atmosphere seeps through. A kind of darkness that compounds the ::
:: incorporeal matter of humanity and the sonic intensity of the ::
:: original black and death metal movement. This kind of fusion is ::
:: the foundation for what this duo has been looking to achieve. ::
:: Listening through the album you cannot deny that it seems to be ::
:: the product of meticulously crafting something evil and ::
:: refining that sinister darkness. ::
:: ::
:: Tracks like ôOhrot (Worthy of Praiseö showcase some of the more ::
:: feral tendencies of the band. Guttural noises and the grim ::
:: vocals over fiery, shifting riffs accentuate that one as well ::
:: as most other tracks on the record. At other times Aittitos ::
:: weave more fragile melody and traditional second wave harmonies ::
:: into their crushing wall of sound, as well as bring some ::
:: doomier moments to the table. Those employ tense, building ::
:: moments of volcanic proportions that erupt, with the overall ::
:: feeling of the record being a quite chaotic one. ::
:: ::
:: The album is rounded off by a fitting production which should ::
:: especially please fans of the rawer and original side of ::
:: extreme music. The sound comes across very natural and got kind ::
:: of analog feeling to it, so in case you think that a lot of ::
:: modern works are overproduced you should do yourself a favor ::
:: and give ôEmpyreus Elatioö a listen. That being said even if ::
:: you prefer a more polished approach to black metal this one is ::
:: worth a try, as the songwriting is absolutely competent and in ::
:: the end this is what matters the most. ::
