It's much better, much ║ │ │║ brighter, much more feeling. With a little (or ║ │ │║ much) help from Steve Jones (Sex Pistols). The ║ │ │║ mix between this two guys is great. The pop from ║ │ │║ Taylor and the roughness from Jones gave us this ║ │ │║ masterpiece which you can find it in the top of ║ │ │║ my shelf (or my car, or my office, or my PC). ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ I don't know in what kind of mood I was when I ║ │ │║ heard it the first time, but it grabbed me very ║ │ │║ very bad. I can't stop listening to this one. ║ │ │║ Bad luck for me, I bought it almost 15 years ║ │ │║ after the CD came to the market, I had to listen ║ │ │║ to it on my old tape (yes, I couldn't find it a ║ │ │║ few years later on tape either). Anyway, I found ║ │ │║ it here on Amazon (bargain) and thank God ║ │ │║ someone saved me from buying it on $111.00 USD ║ │ │║ (I was a click away) and I bought it on $24.00 ║ │ │║ USD (I guess). ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Andy Taylor came after he left the group DD with ║ │ │║ the anthemic "Take it easy" but he only had 2 or ║ │ │║ 3 songs on the soundtrack (American Anthem). He ║ │ │║ later released Thunder and pretty much followed ║ │ │║ the same line. The difference from the ║ │ │║ soundtrack and Thunder is that on this CD he ║ │ │║ goes much much deeper on the rhythm and the ║ │ │║ solos.s ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ I don't like to review song by song but this one ║ │ │║ totally deserves it: ║ │ │║ 1) I might lie - Very interesting, very much ║ │ │║ like Take it easy II. ║ │ │║ 2) Don't let me die young - Strong, with a lot ║ │ │║ of rhythm, but not falling on the 80's sound. ║ │ │║ Great solo too. ║ │ │║ 3) Life goes on - The ballad. Slow but not ║ │ │║ mellow. Probably the wickest track here but on ║ │ │║ any other CD would have stand out. ║ │ │║ 4) Thunder - Extremely good. Won't get you bored ║ │ │║ after 18 years. ║ │ │║ 5) Night Train - He is complaining, and ║ │ │║ definitively he knows how. This is the part of ║ │ │║ the album where I think is starting to gets ║ │ │║ intriguing. ║ │ │║ 6) Tremblin' - The best one on the CD. There are ║ │ │║ not many songs out there like this one. ║ │ │║ 7) Bring me down - Great, but sad, grab a bottle ║ │ │║ of tequila on this one. ║ │ │║ 8) Broken window - Keep drinkin'. ║ │ │║ 9) French guitar - Great way to close this ║ │ │║ jewel. Very deep, very strong. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Not too many people know that shortly after his ║ │ │║ departure from Duran Duran, lead ax-man Andy ║ │ │║ Taylor released a solo album; an album that ║ │ │║ shows Andy's hard rock side, rather then the ║ │ │║ mechanized sounds that people were used to. "I ║ │ │║ Might Lie" comes at you like a freight train ║ │ │║ with hard charging riffs, and one that mimics ║ │ │║ Michael Jackson's "Beat It". Dual vocal ║ │ │║ harmonies add dimension. Andy's delivery takes ║ │ │║ more of a soulful approach on "Don't Let me Die ║ │ │║ Young". Boogie-woogie piano and bluesy licks can ║ │ │║ be heard throughout. "Life Goes On" has a ║ │ │║ simple, understated message that Taylor tries to ║ │ │║ get across. Just so it sticks in your head, he ║ │ │║ adds a chant-like chorus section. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ The mid-tempo title track "Thunder" has a great ║ │ │║ resonation lick that's played over some muted ║ │ │║ riffing. The addition of chimes to the track ║ │ │║ reminds you that Andy was a part of "Do They ║ │ │║ Know It's Christmas". This song could have ║ │ │║ easily been the theme for any Molly Ringwald ║ │ │║ movie of the eighties. When "Tremblin'" rolls ║ │ │║ around, Taylor slips back into Duran Duran mode. ║ │ │║ It's very synthesizer and effects heavy, but ║ │ │║ Andy pulls off a great wailing guitar solo. A ║ │ │║ water guitar effect enhances the bluesy "Bring ║ │ │║ Me Down". A guitar and synth instrumental ║ │ │║ "French Guitar" closes out the album. It's very ║ │ │║ melodic, but not too flashy. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ The Verdict ║ │ │║ Who knew the guitarist from Duran Duran knew how ║ │ │║ to rock?! Thunder is a strong guitar rock album ║ │ │║ from a man who usually relied on lots of ║ │ │║ effects. A true gem, if you can find it. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ This came out in 1987, the year I graduated. I ║ │ │║ think one of the reasons I got this album was ║ │ │║ because I was impressed by Andy's work on the ║ │ │║ American Anthem soundtrack as well as his guitar ║ │ │║ work on Belinda Carlisle's song, "Mad About ║ │ │║ You." ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ I think I actually taped a copy of this off a ║ │ │║ friend's tape. I actually bought the CD version ║ │ │║ in 1989 at Best Buy for like $1.99. It's got the ║ │ │║ big cut out in the corner. All of my friends ║ │ │║ bought a copy. At $1.99, it was worth the risk. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ The album overall has kind of a "sad song" or ║ │ │║ "downer" feel to it. There is a good mix of ║ │ │║ rocking and ballady type songs. Even an ║ │ │║ instrumental called "French Window." ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ I need to break this album out and listen to it ║ │ │║ again. I guess the thing that is so impressive ║ │ │║ about this album is that it is unlike anything ║ │ │║ Andy did in Duran Duran. It also showcases ║ │ │║ Andy's vocal talents. Quite honestly, I think ║ │ │║ he's a better singer than Simon LeBon. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Considering his background as the guitarist of ║ │ │║ Duran Duran, Andy Taylor can be easily ║ │ │║ underrated and any project launched by him could ║ │ │║ be candidate for not be taken into account for ║ │ │║ lack of seriousness. Don't fall into it. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ My first contact with "Thunder" was hearing the ║ │ │║ opening track -"I Might Lie"- on the radio ║ │ │║ without knowing who was playing, and it ║ │ │║ surprised me when I eventually knew. I ║ │ │║ immediatly recorded in its whole on tape from a ║ │ │║ borrowed LP. It makes you understand how ║ │ │║ restrained Taylor was when he was part of Duran ║ │ │║ Duran.s ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ When Andy left the band, he wanted to prove he ║ │ │║ was a good guitar player and made an album that ║ │ │║ let everybody knew his idea of being a Hollywood ║ │ │║ rocker: its sounds reminds the hair metal bands ║ │ │║ in their early ages. Althought not a shredder, ║ │ │║ there's plenty of soul in his solos -just listen ║ │ │║ "Life Goes On" and "Bringin' Me Down"-, and the ║ │ │║ songs have a Bon Jovi-esque catchiness. Guitar ║ │ │║ riffs? Think Def Leppard's "Hysteria". Lyrics ║ │ │║ have a bluesy-dark feel that gives the whole ║ │ │║ album an almost depressing mood. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ When "Thunder" came out, it didn't get good ║ │ │║ critics at all, and may be the reason why Andy ║ │ │║ didn't made a second effort. Maybe it wasn't ║ │ │║ Durannie enough... maybe it wasn't as heavy or ║ │ │║ shredding as other contemporary albums... ║ │ │║ "Thunder" ain't anything of them, that's why ║ │ │║ it's worth the buying. ║ │ │║ If you like his playing out of Duran Duran, you ║ │ │║ can even get Rod Stewart's "Out Of Order", the 2 ║ │ │║ Power Station CD's or his collaborations on ║ │ │║ "Miami Vice" and "American Anthem" soundtracks. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ While Andy Taylor was best known as the ║ │ │║ guitarist for Duran Duran, Thunder takes on a ║ │ │║ harder edge sound. I came across a single called ║ │ │║ "When The Rain Comes Down" from the Miami Vice ║ │ │║ II sound track that was just terrific. I bought ║ │ │║ the cassette "Thunder" in the 80's and played it ║ │ │║ until the writing on each side wore off. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ "Thunder" was released before the age of the ║ │ │║ ridiculous Hair Band Heavy Metal Era (or ║ │ │║ whatever that particular time was called). ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Every song on the CD is solid, filled with ║ │ │║ creative guitar licks and satisfying lyrics. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Much more than you would expect from Duran ║ │ │║ Duran.... ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ ║ │ │╚════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │╔═════════════════════╗ │ │║ Release Tracklist ║ │ │╚═════════════════════╩══════════════════════════════════════════ │ │ │ │ 01 - I Might Lie [05:16] │ │ 02 - Don't Let Me Die Young [04:26] │ │ 03 - Life Goes On [04:53] │ │ 04 - Thunder [04:06] │ │ 05 - Night Train [04:42] │ │ 06 - Tremblin' [04:27] │ │ 07 - Bringin' Me Down [05:10] │ │ 08 - Broken Window [04:17] │ │ 09 - French Guitar [04:05] │ │ │ │ Total Length : [41:22 minn │ │ │ │ │ │ ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │ ╔═════════════════════╗ │ │ ║ Greetings To: ║ │ │ ╚═════════════════════╝ │ │ │ │ Too all people who contributes to make this │ │ archive of good music in a exceptional conditions │ │ │ │ │ │ │ │■ ■│ └───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
