.Releasenotes ..............................................................
Like the year zero marked the start of the Christian era, 1993 is yet another
pivotal moment in the history of mankind as this year saw the birth of one of
the best bands around today: Beyond93.
Started of in Hoofddorp, self proclaimed Main Village of Holland, as a
teenage cover band playing grunge songs and whatnot Beyond93 steadily grew
into a band with a style of their own, loosely based on fast melodic punk and
secretly hidden slower songs just to please the girls (one of the main
subjects of the band's songs). Build around singer, axeman, wordsmith Jake
Styles and drumbeast Jan Beyond93 went through different personnel changes to
get to the tight unit they are now. Former roadie of the band Frank joined to
play guitar and bass player Evil was picked out of the gutter where he was
left after the demise of his infamous emostonerpunkband BEP.
In this four piece set up Beyond93 built a steady live reputation even
rocking a packed Max at the Melkweg, Amsterdam, supporting old favorites Bad
Religion in spring 2002.
Over the years Beyond93 made quite a few records too (check the truly awesome
'Stop Looking Back!' from 1999, released on Dutch-records) and ten years down
the line a new release saw the light of day. The EP 'Would You Give Up On The
World?' made the year 2003 another historical milestone in music. The record
contains 6 fabulous songs ranging from the loud and extremely fast and yet
thoroughly melodic ('Don't Be Upset', 'Two Bad') to midtempo punkrock
('Someone Else', 'Unsaid') and there's even a 'ballad' ('A Telephone Ring')!
But the c.d.'s best song is kept til last as titletrack 'Would You Give Up On
The World?' is a stunning example of Jakes songwriting skills, setting of as
a happy-go-lucky punkditty it gets darker and after an acoustic interlude the
song ends in truly dramatic style.
Dutch national radiostation Kink FM naturally chose this song as the focal
point of the c.d. which was released in the spring, distributed by Sonic
Rendezvous. The song stayed in the Outlaw41-list (KinkFM's hitlist) for six
weeks.
At that moment the band felt that the time was right to accompany the E.P.
with a video. 'Someone Else', being the first song on the c.d. and a very
nice popsong on top of that, was chosen as the Single. Plans were made
quickly and a nice and talented chap, named Vince Fitz-Jim, was brought in to
be the director. The whole video was shot in two frantic days (February 28th
and March 1st of 2003) on a very low budget and just in time finished to be
co-released with the EP.
Official release of both 'Would You Give Up On The World'-EP and the 'Someone
Else'-video was the 24th of March and took place at the Winston Kingdom in
Amsterdam.
'Someone Else' took on momentum as KinkFM and The Box put the song on their
playlist, staying in the Outlaw41 for 12 (!) weeks (hitting the highest spot
at 8) and being in the Box's On The Roxx-chart Top 5 for at least 10 weeks
(nr. 2 as the highest).
Also there was a small England-tour that took place in June. Conquering
Britain from York to the Isle Of Wight, from Southampton to Plymouth via Bath
and Leicester and finishing off in Merksem (Belgium). Icing on the cake in
the year 2003 was the 38th spot Beyond93 got in the annual Outlaw141 which
lists the 141 best songs of that year according to KinkFm! With that in the
bag Beyond93 is now ready to rock your world! You just wait and see!
