It's █ █ █ █ both hilarious and effective, and instantly marks Deztroyer █ █ █ █ apart from the majority of the thrash wave at the end of █ █ █ █ the 90s. Mileage may vary, because he feels as if he's █ █ █ █ always just about to shake out of key, or rather the vocals █ █ █ █ seem like they are about to escape the music, but █ █ █ █ throughout most of the 11 tracks (14 if you've got the CD-R █ █ █ █ re-issue) he sticks to his more aggressive, constipated █ █ █ █ tone, and pieces like "Ain't No Cure", "Intolerate", "Can't █ █ █ █ Complain", "(W.R.A.) Torture" and the thundering "We Fight" █ █ █ █ are among the fastest and most ruthless of German █ █ █ █ speed/thrash available in this period, each stuffed wall to █ █ █ █ wall with derivative but functional guitars. A few of the █ █ █ █ bonus tracks from the band's self-released CD-R ("Heaven's █ █ █ █ Gate", "Outwit the Maze") are also pretty good, culled from █ █ █ █ re-recordings of earlier demos, and the only deviation from █ █ █ █ straight up aggression is "Souvenirs", a clowny folk/metal █ █ █ █ piece which is thankfully brief. █ █ █ █ Kulp is eccentric sounding enough that his presence might █ █ █ █ have somewhat hindered the band's success, but I like to █ █ █ █ think of him in a similar light to Udo Dirkschneider, who █ █ █ █ also had a pretty unusual style (though not without the █ █ █ █ AC/DC precedent). However, outside of the overbearing █ █ █ █ shadow he casts on the music, the songs also seem short on █ █ █ █ truly memorable riffs and chorus parts. Uwe Becker was a █ █ █ █ skilled guitarist, and the rhythm section very tight, █ █ █ █ launching volatile volleys at light speeds comparable to █ █ █ █ the bigger German bands, but unlike a Mike Sifringer, there █ █ █ █ are no particular riffs you just want to grasp and adulate. █ █ █ █ Climate Change inevitably ends up as one of those albums █ █ █ █ that perfectly fits its era, and is more than fluent as an █ █ █ █ example of the style, but does not resonate through the █ █ █ █ decades like its betters. █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ --- █ █ █ █ █ █ █ █ I can not stand the vocals on "Climate Change". Now that █ █ █ █ I've gotten that off my mind, let me elaborate. █ █ █ █ The first thing I notice about this album is the █ █ █ █ production, which reminds me a lot of that heard on █ █ █ █ Defender's "A Symbol Of Devotion" or Messina's █ █ █ █ "Terrortory". All three come with a rather flat but still █ █ █ █ powerful drumming sound, and with heavy, grinding guitars. █ █ █ █ In fact, the music is similar to both of those albums as █ █ █ █ well, mostly in the speedy guitar riffs and aggressive █ █ █ █ drumming. Nearly every song on "Climate Change" exhibits █ █ █ █ some kind of catchy or innovative riff, and any 'typical' █ █ █ █ moment is made better with the attack of the band. █ █ █ █ Songs such as "Can't Complain" are especially bludgeoning █ █ █ █ with the unrelenting music and furious guitar playing, and █ █ █ █ "WRA Torture" features interesting acoustic work. What sets █ █ █ █ the music apart from other albums is the fast-picking riffs █ █ █ █ which sometimes sound like what we've all heard before, but █ █ █ █ are often so relentlessly paced it sounds new and more █ █ █ █ aggressive. █ █ █ █ "Souvenirs" is a rather pointless piece, though, as it is a █ █ █ █ short song with an often-repeated and very cheesy riff. █ █ █ █ Hardly thrash at all, it sounds more like the theme from a █ █ █ █ cartoon program or TV commercial. █ █ █ █ The bonus tracks on the CDr reissue appear to be demo █ █ █ █ tracks, and are pretty much in the same format as the best █ █ █ █ parts of the actual LP, save for the vocals which are █ █ █ █ slightly more tolerable. Speaking of the vocals, why are █ █ █ █ they so unbearable? Well if your ears don't give you enough █ █ █ █ of a clue, i'll tell you- Pete at times has a voice which █ █ █ █ does in fact sound fairly melodic and well-trained. This, █ █ █ █ however, doesn't mean his voice sounds good against the █ █ █ █ frantic thrash backdrop coming from the rest of the band. █ █ █ █ The vocals could honestly be those from another band and █ █ █ █ album entirely, but were mistakingly dubbed over █ █ █ █ Deztroyer's amazing music. While sometimes the █ █ █ █ weird-sounding melodic singing sounds decent, it is usually █ █ █ █ just too out of place. Even worse though are the parts █ █ █ █ where Pete tries to be dramatic and attempt a scream or █ █ █ █ just a more savage tone. Simply put, he can't do it at all- █ █ █ █ the wailing caterwaul that ruins almost every song sounds █ █ █ █ so ridiculous you can't help but laugh at how out of place █ █ █ █ it is. Assuming he is the singer from this band and not █ █ █ █ some other, my guess would be a lack of practice, as there █ █ █ █ are times when he drags out one of the aforementioned wails █ █ █ █ and it sounds like he forgot how long it might have to █ █ █ █ last. █ █ █ █ From what I've gathered, only 100 or so copies of the █ █ █ █ original LP (a test-pressing?) exist, and the very █ █ █ █ professional-looking CDr reissue may be of the same █ █ █ █ vintage. Still, there is a site on the Deztroyer page which █ █ █ █ links you to a site where the guitarist, Uwe, sells the █ █ █ █ great-looking CDr version, complete with full-color █ █ █ █ booklet, lyrics, and photos (hand-numbered too). In █ █ █ █ conclusion, I would recommend buying this album due to the █ █ █ █ amazing and sadly overlooked music, but just brace yourself █ █ █ █ for a tongue-in-cheek experience when the vocalist steps up █ █ █ █ to the mic. █ █ █ █ █ █ █░█ █░█ █ █ 1.
