Laced with ║ ║ beautiful melodies, technical tempo changes and riffs, and ║ ║ consistently pure clean vocals, this record ought to turn the heads ║ ║ of fans of The Afterimage, Napoleon and Periphery. Is there a better ║ ║ time than now, Star Wars fans? Is there a more exciting time to be ║ ║ alive? EFEB has put out their debut album, 'Continents Apart'. ║ ║ ║ ║ Typically, if an album sounds like it was supposed to be released in ║ ║ 2006, it means itÆs not good, but for EFEB, there is something ║ ║ different in their intention. This album doesnÆt play as a ║ ║ re-creation or a tribute, but rather a solid, modern album that ║ ║ drips the influences it was built on. These influences reside ║ ║ primarily in the choruses, this is where vocalists Rob Heavysege and ║ ║ Chris Zielke do their best work, belting out line after line of Real ║ ║ Friends-esque, pop punk-infused, angsty glory. For example, track ║ ║ three 'The Valley', the chorus especially is a fantastic ear worm ║ ║ that I canÆt seem to get out of my head. ║ ║ ║ ║ One of my favorite parts about Continents Apart is how melody-driven ║ ║ it is. I have no shame in admitting I tend to gravitate towards ║ ║ albums with a majority of clean vocals, and this is primarily why I ║ ║ emphasize EFEBÆs vocal styling so much, itÆs very crisp, very ║ ║ catchy, and very melodious throughout every aspect of the album. One ║ ║ thing I noticed in listening to this album is how ubiquitous the ║ ║ melody is. When you look back on mid-2000Æs post-hardcore bands like ║ ║ Alexisonfire, youÆll notice that angst and melody are mutually ║ ║ exclusive aspects, not relegated into different roles but combined ║ ║ into a single entity. This tactic is the backbone of Continents ║ ║ Apart in nearly every aspect of the album: In the vocals, the ║ ║ drumming, the guitar work, and the tone and atmosphere. When I refer ║ ║ to Continents Apart as a product of its influences, this is ║ ║ primarily what I am referring to, this album has taken critical ║ ║ components of the previous decade and infused them into their style. ║ ║ ║ ║ In their harsher moments, Escape From Echo Base remain closer to ║ ║ modern progressive post-hardcore acts such as This or the ║ ║ Apocalypse, such as in 'Between the Continents' and 'Seventeen ║ ║ Hundred'. The guitar work does have an additional progressive edge ║ ║ as well, which can be seen in tracks such as 'Lifeblood'. These ║ ║ three tracks reflect the heavier, more modern side of their music, ║ ║ however even in the process of their heaviest moments, melody ║ ║ remains a constant. This consistent dose of melody is crucial to the ║ ║ structure of this album, where like I said earlier, reflects back to ║ ║ a time where angst and melody were one. ║ ║ ║ ╠═══════════════════════════════[TRACK.LiST]══════════════════════════════╣ ║ ║ ║ 01 Galleries 4:52 ║ ║ 02 Seventeen Hundred 3:41 ║ ║ 03 The Valley (ft Kyle Anderson of The Afterimage) 3:32 ║ ║ 04 Taken From Me 1:32 ║ ║ 05 Lifeblood 4:34 ║ ║ 06 Between the Continents 3:41 ║ ║ 07 Engravings 4:48 ║ ║ 08 Know 1:49 ║ ║ 09 Two If By Sea 4:11 ║ ║ ║ ║ TOTAL SiZE.: 9 Files/68.53MB/32:40 min ║ ║ ║ ╚═════════════════════════════════[⌐2017]═════════════════════════════════╝
