They ║ ║ formed in 2014 and have released a self titled EP prior to ║ ║ Imminentus. ║ ║ ║ ║ The first thing that struck me about this album was the immediate ║ ║ introduction to a dark and eerie soundscape. This is the type of ║ ║ music thatÆll actually freak you out while youÆre walking down a ║ ║ dark alley on your own, or when its 3am and youÆre in your dark room ║ ║ with your headphones on and you canÆt help but feel on edge- and ║ ║ thatÆs without the main core of the music having to do a thing. But ║ ║ then, all of a sudden, the music hits you like a bus. This isnÆt raw ║ ║ brutality- this is evil, supernatural brutality. It teases and ║ ║ torments you before commencing to bludgeon you to a pulp with its ║ ║ unrelenting force. And for this reason, this album captivated me ║ ║ from the get-go. ║ ║ ║ ║ This really is a monster of an album- its over 46 minutes long and ║ ║ consists of 14 tracks-all of which boast something uniquely ║ ║ interesting. While there doesnÆt seem to be a specific or consistent ║ ║ lyrical concept surrounding it, the lyrics touch on topics such as ║ ║ genocide, alien invasion, supernatural beings/forces and general ║ ║ hatred û in other words, if youÆre looking for a love song or clean ║ ║ sections you are seriously in the wrong place. The vocal ║ ║ performances are carried out with impressive consistency and ║ ║ certainly have their own space in each song, and thereÆs generally ║ ║ an acceptable level of variation and range in and between each song. ║ ║ There is no doubting that this guy is an absolute monster of a ║ ║ vocalist; every song his aggressive low mids and growls are pushed ║ ║ in to your face and compliment the instruments perfectly. If you ║ ║ happen to be a fan of Sever The King, Evans vocal style is very ║ ║ similar and some ways even dominant. ║ ║ ║ ║ The instrumentation on this album is absolutely crushing. The fact ║ ║ that the guitarists have taken proper advantage of their extended ║ ║ range guitars is pleasing, as you hear them hopping strings and ║ ║ octaves in a æthallÆ-like fashion throughout the album, before ║ ║ swiftly returning to bottom end riffing or a massive breakdown. And ║ ║ as if this wasnÆt enough for you, they surely make up for it with ║ ║ the ever-changing guitar driven atmospherics. As a guitarist and ║ ║ producer myself it blows my mind to hear how well theyÆve blended ║ ║ production tricks with various guitar tricks and techniques to ║ ║ create a lot of the haunting and enchanting soundscapes you hear on ║ ║ the album. While this may be common in many extreme metal genres I ║ ║ have never personally heard such a level of intricacy and diversity; ║ ║ the fact that every song seems to have a fresh feel whilst retaining ║ ║ enough consistency, yet avoiding riff recycling really is ║ ║ impressive. ║ ║ ║ ║ The production is both the glue and the icing on the cake for the ║ ║ album. You can clearly hear how the fact that the guitarist was not ║ ║ only writing but also producing the album worked massively to the ║ ║ bands advantage. The production doesnÆt just enhance what was ║ ║ already there as it does on many releases û it is very much part of ║ ║ the album. Everything flows, every little trick plays a part in the ║ ║ sound and feel of the album and it just gels so well. In terms of ║ ║ the quality of production, it is well balanced whilst having a very ║ ║ specific and recognisable style.
