Ukrainian, Guk Kirill, has been a revelation since first bursting onto the underground progressive house scene with his Following Light production pseudonym. A handful of tracks in 2010 and 11 gave a taste of what was to follow, but 2012 saw an explosion of his talents, carried through to 2014 and the brand new Ridge EP for Particles. Born in the politically significant port of Odessa on the Black Sea and on which the sensitive Crimea region is also situated, Kirill has managed to carve a considerable niche for his impressive talents. A passionate interest in creativity saw him graduate with a degree in fine art as he contemporaneously started experimentations...in electronic music. Over 160 Beatport production credits in fewer than two years have amply illustrated that such experimentations have proved successful for Kirill's talents. Balkan Connection, Stellar Fountain and Aura Music have all showcased the Following Light name on their rosters with the recent Strategem EP for the latter and Lucid EP for new Balkan Connection, BC2 imprint, hitting the headlines. A Particles career that saw a debut in May 2013 with the three-track Calm EP was followed later in the year by the twin-track Delightful release, and subsequent remixes from Exoplanet, Omar El Gamal, and Michael A have brought renewed vigour to a quintet of well-received original material. Support from Derek Howell, Soulwerk and Aeron Aether have seen the Following Light name radiate across the airwaves as Particles is extremely proud to announce a further trio of original tracks that comprise the Ridge EP. Staying true to his penchant for an atmospheric progressive sound while offering a slight deeper beats driven production style, a collage of glitches, deep resonant bass and rolling percussive groove greets opening track Sentence. Melodic moments enter the fray courtesy of beautifully placed glassy motifs and rhythmic stabs, as all combine in the final movements to stirring effect. Title track Ridge continues the deep, beats led beliefs of its predecessor as effects-coated vocal cuts and eerie pads create a dark and brooding atmosphere. Textured sounds fly across the stereo spectrum as the mood is enhanced by occasional melodies that pervade the multifaceted soundscape. Final track, Entreaty provides a somewhat lighter moment. A glassy and slightly metallic percussive groove sets the scene for an ensemble of effects, sirens and incongruous bass to evolve alongside a subtle blend of freeform melodies that meander across an innovative backdrop in unencumbered fashion. A third original Particles EP from the mind of Following Light has formed another landmark Ridge in a multi-coloured musical landscape.
