People Under the Stairs. Comprised of rapper/producers Newman (born Alex Newman in Seattle), Maanumental (Jamaan Mclaren; Seattle), and Chikaramanga (Chikara Kurahashi; Tokyo, Japan), the trio independently released the "88 Remix" (2002) 12" EP before joining the stable of Tres Records, an independent rap label co-founded by Chikaramanga and People Under the Stairs rapper/producer Thes One. In 2006 Giant Panda released their full-length album debut, "Fly School Reunion", along with a series of 12" EPs: "With It", "Super Fly", and "T.K.O". The trio released its second album, "Electric Laser", on Tres Records in 2008. Contained in the purple jacket with the flipping panda is the first 12" release from Giant Panda On Tres, and the A- side is called "With It". "With It", produced by Chikaramanga, contains (literally) good vibes and hard drums that lets Maanumental and Newman wax poetic on hip- hoppin. The B-side, the Newman produced "Racist", is a comedic (but yet serious?) look at cultural/racial stereotypes. "Racist" is also (maybe) the first song where a native Japanese speaker gets down in English. Finally, the bonus song here is "GP Y'all". Produced by Newman, featuring Proh Mic on the hook, and the Pandas getting their rap on.
