Off 2:47 Release Notes: https://soundcloud.com/glow-curve http://goo.gl/FIEKl1 http://goo.gl/exjkor Glow Curve, originally called Maze, was formed in 2006 by guitarist and vocalist Xue Ran. Xue Ran was one of the co-owners of now defunct Tongzhou fish hatchery/bar/live music venue Raying Temple and a partner in the affiliated NOJIJI label. While NOJIJI's thing is mostly extreme noise and experimental improv -- best represented by psychedelic freakout jam collectives Mafeisan and ONG -- Xue Ran's influence has always given the label's oeuvre a strong counter-balance. In the late 2000s, Maze caught the first wave of the China post-rock zeitgeist, playing frequent shows with Dalian's Wang Wen and showcases organized by the now dormant Foxtail post-rock label. After changing the band's name from Maze to Glow Curve, Xue Ran released their self-titled debut on NOJIJI. That one's a pretty straight-ahead collection of meandering instrumental slow burners, including a paean to Raying Temple that still stirs pangs of mourning for anyone who spent more than a few beers there (it was chai'd over a year ago and is presumably now a Starbucks): Glow Curve signed to Modern Sky last year, and will bring the fruits of that union into the world later in 2013. Based on their recent live shows, the band seems to be moving away from their earlier post-rock leanings and more toward upbeat indie-electro territory.
