This Swedish, female-fronted psych-rock outfit became a cult hit after their
lauded 2012 debut World Music and seminal appearances at Glastonbury this
summer.
On July 27, the eve of those two Glasto sets, the band played Camden's
Electric Ballroom in their customary masks to 1,100 fans already in the know.
If you missed out, it's now immortalised here, further stoking the flames of
their cult success as the gang prepare to head back into the studio for a
follow-up.
And it's a belter. Goat have earned their place in the palace of
transcendental experiences on the back of their live shows, where whirling
guitar motifs and hypnotic, rattling bongo rhythms meet punkish, throaty
female vocals and irresistible grooves set free from the constraints of the
studio.
The irrepressible Disco Fever, propelled by bongos and noodly, intertwining
guitar, is redolent of The Slits or Siouxie And The Banshees, and Run To Your
Mama's six minutes of hypnotic rhythms ends with the order barked into the
crowd.
It's an invigorating, sometimes excoriating listen - even quieter moments like
Goatlord and Dreambuilding, with its frankly beautiful guitar jangle threading
throughout, feel like a post-ritual breather, before the band dives into the
valedictory 11-minute psych-stoner rock behemoth Det Som Aldrig
F≈rSndras/Kristallen Den Fina.
An epic, voodoo post-punk spectacle.
