Not only does ║ │ │║ the traditional, epic heavy metal with here and ║ │ │║ there a kick of thrash summon the old eighties ║ │ │║ spirit, but is in all its simplicity plain ║ │ │║ genius. So far they have managed to grab my full ║ │ │║ attention with every song and deliver me ║ │ │║ Goosebumps on very regular base. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ But ok, with high expectations and also certain ║ │ │║ caution I start my journey through the record. ║ │ │║ The atmospheric intro æIwo JimaÆ already sounds ║ │ │║ trusted and slowly but certainly I get into the ║ │ │║ mood. As soon as the band bursts out after that ║ │ │║ with the title track, my fist is immediately in ║ │ │║ the air and I find myself banging my head ║ │ │║ automatically! My god, what a fantastic up-tempo ║ │ │║ heavy metal track this is. As soon as front man ║ │ │║ Alex Mereu opens his throat the band is ║ │ │║ immediately recognizable and reminds strongly of ║ │ │║ the material on æStill At WarÆ and the faster ║ │ │║ tracks on æHellenic Warrior SpiritÆ. I must say ║ │ │║ that I feel a huge relief. So far, So good! The ║ │ │║ following æLord Of WarÆ is again a typical Holy ║ │ │║ Martyr track that fits well to the earlier ║ │ │║ works. However, the band also comes up with a ║ │ │║ modern sound here and there, which is mostly ║ │ │║ revealed through the heavier guitar sound. But ║ │ │║ still the band has kept true to its sound at the ║ │ │║ same time. æGhost DogÆ starts off slow and again ║ │ │║ shows influences of modern heavy metal, but at ║ │ │║ the same time the eightiesÆ spirit of Iron ║ │ │║ Maiden is again more clearly present. This track ║ │ │║ also has a huge epic load over it and when the ║ │ │║ band speeds up hallways, also the spirit of Omen ║ │ │║ reveals itself again. The short overture æThe ║ │ │║ Soul Of My KatanaÆ has the Japanese spirit that ║ │ │║ not only fits well to the concept and the cover ║ │ │║ artwork, but also keeps the element of surprise ║ │ │║ and renewal in tact. During the rest of the ║ │ │║ album all Holy Martyr elements the band revealed ║ │ │║ on the previous albums are again present. ║ │ │║ Although a track like æKagemushÆ for example ║ │ │║ summons the same melancholic, epic atmosphere ║ │ │║ and conceptual feel of æHellenic Warrior ║ │ │║ SpiritÆ, the bigger deal of the album is more ║ │ │║ up-tempo and goes more to the direction of the ║ │ │║ debut.s ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ After hearing the album I can say that ║ │ │║ æInvincibleÆ has become a surprising album. ║ │ │║ After the epic concept album æHellenic Warrior ║ │ │║ SpiritÆ, this is certainly not the kind of album ║ │ │║ I had in mind as a follow-up. As I already ║ │ │║ mentioned the band has come up with a faster and ║ │ │║ more aggressive sounding album and summons more ║ │ │║ atmosphere of the earlier works. The band has ║ │ │║ also worked out new influences in the music, ║ │ │║ which has prevented them from repeating ║ │ │║ themselves, but has also stayed loyal to their ║ │ │║ sound. Altogether make æInvincibleÆ a highly ║ │ │║ strong album (with a very fitting title) that ║ │ │║ despite its playing time of almost an hour does ║ │ │║ not bore or weaken for a second. Fans of the ║ │ │║ earlier albums can purchase this without a ║ │ │║ second though.
