Blaine founded Big Daddy Coalition, an informal rap project with two self-released cassettes, The Dark Side and Welcome to Cleveland. Eventually, the two met up with Brina, and the trio began building a following in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. After warming up the crowd at local appearances by Scarface and 2Pac, among others, II Tru were invited to join Mo Thugs Records, the home of Cleveland heroes Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The trio guested on Mo Thugs' Family Scriptures in 1996, then released their proper debut, A New Breed of Female, on September 9, 1997. Krayzie Bone and Layzie Bone served as executive producers on the album while Archie Blaine, who produced several tracks on Family Scriptures, produced the music. Along with a single, a music video was released for "Ballers Flossin," though it failed to make it to the Billboard charts. The album, unfortunately, did not match the success of Family Scriptures and it quickly fell off the Billboard charts after peaking at 194 on the Billboard 200. II Tru's last appearance came on Mo Thugs' follow-up album, Chapter II: Family Reunion, on the track entitled "Pimpin' Ain't Easy."
