One of those glorious demo recordings makes it : : on to this debut EP - "Watching The Sun Go Down" - a : : fizzing sunshine bright Beach Boys meets, well actually : : no, with the strange exception of the very obscure : : Speedvark, Kid Galahad actually sound like no one but : : themselves. Sure, there's hints of Jane's Addiction, : : Spratley's Japs, Beck and Beach Boys (and Speedvark) in : : this cocktail of uniqueness, but you have to know that : : Kid Galahad are one of those rare rare bands who sound : : like no one else but themselves. So back to opening : : track of this their first 'proper' release - "Stealin' : : Beats" - with it's loose drum style and it's very easy : : very very easy, sassy, laid back breezy sound. It : : sounded a little too considered on first few plays, : : everyone else here loves it, but everyone else here : : hasn't been basking in the real real lo-fi easiness of : : those demo recordings. Stealin Beats is great but it's : : not the whole story by any means, it has a sound thatÆs : : a little too-cleaned-up with it's slightly too 'proper' : : production - I'm splitting hairs, itÆs still very very : : fine - its Grandaddy with added English Cricket season : : values. "Days" sounds like lazy English countryside, an : : acoustic thing recorded in a back garden with the : : insects and jet planes and birds, sometimes itÆs all so : : very simple.
