release notes:
Lipoma is the brainchild of Max Pierce (aka Dr. Lipoma), who launched
the project in 2021 out of New York City. Since then, Lipoma has
unleashed two full-length albums and a relentless onslaught of EPs,
singles, and splits-each one pushing the boundaries of modern goregrind.
The 2022 debut, Horrors of Pathology, made an immediate impact, carving
out a unique space in a scene flooded with banal, guttural noise. Lipoma
stood apart with razor-sharp melodic death metal riffs, twisted
harmonies, and surgical precision-blending brutality with unexpected
catchiness.
Just a year later, Odes to Suffering took things even further. Doubling
down on the melodic goregrind foundation while weaving in blackened
atmospherics, the album solidified Lipoma's reputation as one of the
most inventive voices in the goregrind scene.
Now, Lipoma is back with the third and most adventurous release yet: No
Cure for the Sick. Still soaked in gore and grind, this album throws a
curveball with an undercurrent of ironic optimism--think infectious
skatepunk-inspired melodies crashing headfirst into bleak, gore-soaked
lyricism. Bouncy synthesized organs amidst pitch-shifted gutturals.
Power chord riffage and melo-death tremolo picking atop pummeling blast
beats. Mournful medieval melodies collide with horrific pathological
pessimism. It's a gloriously grotesque juxtaposition.
There's no easy comparison for Lipoma. With influences ranging from pop
punk to melodic death to black metal, this is a project that refuses to
stay in one lane-yet it all comes together in a sound unmistakably
rooted in goregrind.
Crushing. Catchy. Contagious. There is NO CURE FOR THE SICK.
