Just a week ago, nothing, nowhere. teased his latest release, sparking conversation by asking fans what style they expected. Known for his eclectic approach, each of his albums is a new exploration, blending genres, moods and styles in unexpected ways. While some listeners anticipated a dive into synth-driven 80s popùespecially after snippets from his short video postsùMiserymaker, his third album this year, takes a different turn. Instead, itÆs a return to the gritty, guitar-heavy rock, nu metal and emo post-hardcore sound reminiscent of his earlier works, but with a modern twist. Fans of his signature emo-rap will also find subtle influences sprinkled throughout. In 2024, nothing, nowhere. set an ambitious goal: four full-length albums in one year. With Miserymaker, heÆs reached the third milestone. The second track, Dead2Me, thatÆs already gaining traction on social media. Early reviews suggest itÆs the standout, praised for its dynamic range and emotional depth. Other tracks like Resurrection and South Boston showcase the rock-influenced foundation of the album, packed with power chords, heavy drumming, and cathartic vocal lines that will appeal to both longtime fans and new listeners. In the latter half of the album, Aura offers a more reflective moment via its modern take on emo rap, while The Heart Mechanic closes out with introspective lyrics and nostaliga induced vibes, leaving a lasting emotional punch. The album as a whole feels like a less heavy version of Void Eternal, combined with elements from Trauma FactoryÆs more nuanced, emotive sound. One of the more fascinating aspects of Miserymaker is how nothing, nowhere. manages to bridge emo, post-hardcore, and even touches of rap without it feeling disjointed. While guitars and live drums dominate much of the album, there are subtle nods to the genres heÆs touched on in previous work. His eclecticism once again shines through, even in the confines of this more aggressive, rock-centered project. The only slight critique IÆd offer is that weÆve been getting quite a bit of this guitar-heavy style from him lately, and for a moment, I thought he might switch it up. But it makes sense to capitalize on the current wave, with all the hype and revival of nu-metal and emoùitÆs a smart move that positions nothing, nowhere. perfectly in todayÆs market. Joseph Edward Mulherin, better known by his stage name nothing, nowhere., has been a key figure in the blending of emo-rap, alt indie pop, emotive rock and post-hardcore for years. With Miserymaker, Mulherin continues his journey of introspection and genre-blending, proving that his musicùwhether itÆs heavy or melodicùremains a space for emotional depth and catharsis. Fans whoÆve followed him from the early days of Reaper through his newer releases will find something familiar yet freshly raw in Miserymaker. With just one more album left in his ambitious 2024 project, we canÆt wait to see how he surprises us next. One thingÆs for sureùheÆll bring his creative touch and hit us with something fresh and unexpected. ............................................................................
