Release Notes:
Monkeys for Nothin' and the Chimps for Free is the sixth studio album from Reel
Big Fish, and their first studio album since being released from Jive Records.
It is currently scheduled for release on July 10, 2007.[1]
The press release on the MySpace page also indicates that this album will be
much more upbeat than the band's previous full-length, We're Not Happy 'Til
You're Not Happy, with Aaron Barrett quoted as saying "There's not a lot of
complaining and bitching. It's a lot more fun and funny."
At the beginning of the project, the band did not intend to record a new album.
They originally planned to put together a collection of B-sides and rare tracks
that had never been previously released. Realizing that most of the songs had
never been heard before and that a couple of them "weren't good enough," the
band used a three week gap between tour dates to write some more new songs and
record the album.
Though the production schedule was rushed compared to the recording of their
other albums, Barrett is quoted as saying there was less pressure to the
process, largely due to being free of a major label.
