The album is built on the philosophy that hooks need hooks to back them up. With songs that rarely clock in longer than 4:20, this is an ironclad exercise in modern indie rock. Wearing their influences on their sleeves, the Montreal three-piece comprised of Tyler Crawford (vocals, guitar), Charlie Neufeld (lead rhythm guitar) and Jesse Ash (bass) might be the best thing to happen to Canadian rock since the halcyon days of Sloan and Matthew Good. For the album theyÆve also recruited drummer Jamie Thompson, a powerful player formerly of The Unicorns, who adds a nervy energy to tracks like ôIs Anybody Listening?ö and ôLong Time Coming.ö Partially recorded at CrawfordÆs own IRL Recording and at various churches and apartments throughout Montreal, Reversing Falls found co-producer Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Timber Timbre) to fill out their emotive songs about the futility of human relationships (ôIs This Thing On?ö) and hometown ennui (ôCurse This Placeö). If that wasnÆt enough, the legendary Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, Godspeed! You Black Emperor) mixed the album at Hotel2Tango. Reversing FallsÆ combustible pop songs may be two and a half minutes long, but they all comment incisively about our generationÆs self-conscious concerns. ôEveryone Everyone Everyoneö is a love song about falling for someone terrible. ôShitty Birthdayö describes another disappointing milestone that feels the opposite of how it should mean.
