The Haarlem, NL based punkrock band Simple Assumption was formed in early 1999 by Koen (Bass, Vocals), Michel (Guitar) and Laurens (drums). After already having played together for several years, they decided the time was right to take things a bit more seriously. Simple Assumption soon created their own sound which can be described best as melodic punkrock, influenced bij SoCal punkrock bands like: Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, MxPx, The Offspring, Green Day and more. In December 2001 they recorded their first Demo entitled: ôRed Colourless IdeaÆsö (5 track EP). This Demo did not stay unnoticed and helped them to play a lot of gigs all over Holland. Several songs from this EP were featured on the compilation cdÆs: The Naked Truth, Still Naked (Naked Records), Pleurop Plaat. This demo even made them ôband of the weekö on Exit Radio (Dutch radio station). At the time Naked Records was looking for upcoming punkrock bands and this resulted in the release of the ôFar From Home-EPö in late 2003 together with the Sellfish/Of No Avail-split EP. Though their EP was warmly embraced by press (eg. Oor, Live XS), friends and fans, the band felt an extra boost in their on-stage sound would do no harm and they found a perfect addition in Onno (also known from SPLENDID*69 & Inrage) on second guitar. In 2004 the foursome worked real hard on their live act to put together an explosive punkrocking on-stage performance. The writing of some new songs throughout this same period, resulted in yet another recording session in July 2005 in the Flowerhouse studio. This session gave birth to six new songs on their new EP ôFill The Voidö. Sadly, in 2006 Onno decided to stop playing with the band and devote his artistical time & energy elsewhere. We will definitively miss our musical endevours. To 'fill the void' so to speak, the group was completed again with Sebastiaan. Not unknown to speed and danger, he'll surely make a fine addition to Simple Assumption. And attracting new band members didnÆt stop there. In early 2007 Jeroen joined the Simple-family with the Bass as his musical weapon of choice, giving Koen more room to yell on stage. Now a five-piece band, writing has commenced on more new songs. With their latest EP and lotÆs of punkrocking spirit, the upcoming year will most definitely be the year Simple Assumption is going to cross some boundaries both figuratively as literally!
