The band, which was founded already in 2004, is from the US and plays modern (hard-)rock with classic rock patterns and a bit of blues. The inspiration of Spiral Arms comes from bands like Black Sabbath, but also Led Zeppelin, which they embed in a modern sound. This is to hear in quite some songs on the new album called "Freedom". The main drivers behind the band are Craig Locicero, which most of you know from the Bay Area thrashers Forbidden and Tim Narducci from Systematic. The line-up is completed by Chris Lombardo (ex-Vicious Rumors) on bass, Anthony Traslavina on guitar, Brad Barth (keyboards) and drummer Ron Reeden. After some line-up changes in the past this seems to be now more stable than in the early days. The songs, as said, are modern rock songs and there are 11 of them on the album. "Freedom" starts with a quite heavy rock song called "Dropping like flies. Four minutes of full energy and a great opener. "Drugs and alcohol" follows the same pattern. Beside those songs there are slower songs like e.g. to "Dealer", which has definitaly a Sabbath influence. Talking about Sabbath, the album contains also a cover version of Iommi & Co. - "Tomorrow's dream". With "Lovers leap" the album has also an excellent ballad which reminded me in the chorus to Led Zeppelin and partly Pearl Jam in the verse. A cool song with a lot of atmosphere and feeling performed by excellent musicians. All in all "Freedom" is a great album which combines classic rock and modern rock in a good way. I can recommend to listen to Spiral Arms and hope to see them in Europe quite soon. - Track List ---------------------------------------------------------------- - 01. Dropping Like Flies ( 4:05) 02.
