cousin decided to mimic their favorite MC's and create their own personal rap song. Over their only instrumental, the 3 youngsters scribbled their best rendition of Doug E. Fresh's "The Show" on a home stereo. While the 2 brothers enjoyed the one time parody, the younger cousin discovered a knack for a talent that would be a part of his life forever. Since the tender age of 9, he has given 100% to hip-hop music. Now at the age of 25, an older and more focused Supastition (given name Kam Moye) has completed his debut album entitled, "7 Years Of Bad Luck". Somewhat of a biography, this debut serves as a lifetime journal touching on Supastition's past experiences in life, love, and music. No stranger to shady labels and bad advice, Supastition signed his first contract with the Queens, NY-based label, Lo Key Records (owned by former Def Jam artist Kurtis Blow DJ, Davy D). Being from North Carolina and lacking the usual southern drawl, the label became unsure and puzzled on how to market Supastition (then carrying the moniker of Blackmel). The last attempt was to place Supa and four other label artists in a group called The Union as a label promotion tool. Furious over his album not being released yet, Supastition recorded only one track with the group but enraged the other members by dissing them on the same song. Later that year, he severed all ties with the group along with the label vowing to reinvent himself with a new name and music. Friends and others disagreed that he could resurface himself under a new title and label. Those thoughts alone gave birth to the name Supastition based on the facts that some people believed in him and the rest refused to. In 1998, Supastition traveled to New York and met Pumpkinhead, Bad Seed, Jean Grae, and the Makin' Records Fam through a mutual friend. After the crew heard Supa spit, they quickly asked him to share the stage with them the next night at The Lyricist Lounge Showcase in Manhattan held at the Cooler. During a slight stay at the Mends Recordings camp, Supa appeared on The Nobodies album, "Now Culture" on the track entitled "The Name". Also he made an unwelcome appearance on the Esau album on the Esau track "2 Many MC's" where he spit the infamous line, 'I got split personalities and got'em all solo deals'. During his rebuilding stage, Supastition toured with his close friends, The Nobodies, in Canada and throughout the United States. He relocated to Charlotte, NC with the help of a friend and began recording once again. When a local DJ, Mr. Incognito, gave him the opportunity to battle live on Power 98 WPEG, Supastition quickly became a phenomenon after defeating countless MCs live in the studio for over 6 weeks. After recording a slew of songs, his demo tape was passed along to various independents. Though the majority showed interest, it was Rasco (of Cali Agents fame) who showed the most interest and swiftly signed Supastition to a single deal on his Pockets Linted imprint. Supa also looked towards other non-exclusive offers and signed a one-album deal with Freshchest Records (a hip-hop/drum-n-bass label).
