independently a good six months ago, a renowned label is now taking on the promising buccaneers from Breisgau. I can't say for sure whether the label edition of the album will be as elaborately designed as the first edition in its stylish digipack with seal, as I only have a blank promo copy. However, the images on the Trollzorn Records homepage certainly suggest so. In connection with THE PRIVATEER, the term ôpirate metalö is once again being overused. The band cultivates its buccaneer image both lyrically and visually, but stylistically, the music is strongly rooted in folk metal and also has occasional forays into classic heavy metal. Great importance is attached to melodies and anthemic moments. A violin supports the traditional touch of the music. It is used intelligently and sparingly as a complementary melodic instrument, but also has a distinctive note in their performances. Dynamic riffing, driving drums, and repeated harsh vocals provide an energetic counterpart to the more epic basic melodies and anthemic choirs. However, the mixture of melody and dynamics is well chosen and keeps the listener entertained throughout. The songwriting is consistently excellent. There isn't a single song that doesn't immediately catch the ear, and THE PRIVATEER also have the skill to The songwriting is consistently excellent. Although I am initially inclined to simply quote the track list as recommended tracks, after several listens, specific favorites do emerge. I actually like ôDawn Of A Sailsman,ö ôDescent To Hades,ö ôBlackbeard,ö and ôStormlashedö a tad better than the other songs. Nevertheless, you can listen to any track on the album and immediately recognize the potential of this band. CONCLUSION: THE PRIVATEER are one of the best folk metal bands I've come across in recent months. Pirate image aside, anyone who delivers such a strong debut album has a great musical future ahead of them, in my opinion.
