Refusing to be limited by ▐▌ ▐▌ geographical and stylistic borders, it mixed elements of ▐▌ ▐▌ world, rock & electronic music, often anticipating the ▐▌ ▐▌ musical movements which bloomed during the next two decades. ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ The Crammed Global Soundclash 1980-89 series is now ▐▌ ▐▌ reintroducing some of the gems which came out during that ▐▌ ▐▌ fertile and exciting period. ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ The series consists of 14 releases: a double compilation and ▐▌ ▐▌ 12 artist albums (some of which had never been released on ▐▌ ▐▌ CD, including the long-awaited Honeymoon Killers album and ▐▌ ▐▌ the first Aksak Maboul opus, which laid the foundations of ▐▌ ▐▌ the Crammed aesthetics). ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ The Crammed Global Soundclash vol.1 & 2 compilation is an ▐▌ ▐▌ introduction to the label's own strange '80s. It features a ▐▌ ▐▌ total of 57 tracks or fragments, by artists from Congo, the ▐▌ ▐▌ UK, Iran, Japan, France, Iraq, Belgium, Norway, Israel, ▐▌ ▐▌ Ethiopia & the USA, and was compiled and mixed by Crammed ▐▌ ▐▌ originator Marc Hollander. ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ Crammed started in 81 as a logical extension of the concepts ▐▌ ▐▌ behind Aksak Maboul (Marc Hollander's & Vincent Kenis' ▐▌ ▐▌ band): combining & recycling all kind of musical styles ▐▌ ▐▌ (from rock to ethnic to jazz to classical), cultural ▐▌ ▐▌ collisions, inviting musicians from various horizons, etc. ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ The broadness of the label's scope was apparent since its ▐▌ ▐▌ first batch of releases, which included the aforementioned ▐▌ ▐▌ Aksak Maboul (deconstructionist avant-garde with a sense of ▐▌ ▐▌ fun), The Honeymoon Killers (provocative French-singing pop ▐▌ ▐▌ band which managed to simultaneously charm hip press in the ▐▌ ▐▌ UK and prime-time TV in France), People In Control & Family ▐▌ ▐▌ Fodder (London bands with heavy dub leanings) and Minimal ▐▌ ▐▌ Compact (Middle-Eastern flavoured new wave) . ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ Crammed's original philosophy (which to a large extent still ▐▌ ▐▌ drives the label today) was based around the following ▐▌ ▐▌ cardinal virtues: eclecticism (unlike most independent ▐▌ ▐▌ labels, we'll refuse to be limited to one genre of music); ▐▌ ▐▌ creativity and originality are essential, but must always be ▐▌ ▐▌ coupled with pleasure/fun/inspiration; we're naturally ▐▌ ▐▌ attracted to artists who practice a graceful mix of styles ▐▌ ▐▌ and culture, deliberately and/or because of their particular ▐▌ ▐▌ history or geography. ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ After a while, it seemed necessary to split our output & ▐▌ ▐▌ acts into several specific labels. ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ ▐▌ First in 84 came MADE TO MEASURE, which was intended as a ▐▌ ▐▌ collection of instrumental/ambient music, a kind of ▐▌ ▐▌ "composers' series".
