Said auditionÆs jury had to push their memory banks harder in order to spit the requisite recall of the bandÆs first entry from the distant 1991, a fairly acceptable old school thrash fare with intriguing, both technical and progressive, arrangements, with some notable labyrinthine excursions ("Welcome Terribleö) keeping the listener on his/her toes, the low-tuned deathly vocals not really doing big justice to the inspired, pretty entangled on occasion, musical cavalcade. The fourth decade sees Kugelbauer teaming up with relatively young, not very known musicians, but the lads acquit themselves with some admirable proficiency, the opening ôViolenceö reminding of DestructionÆs immortal ôBestial Invasionö at the start with the persistent stomping motif, this number a pretty decent classic thrasher with a wide variety of time and tempo changes. Comes ôMasters of Metalö and the setting turns to fairly potent early-Angel Dust-esque speed/thrash, excluding the opening tune which is a slightly modified version of the ôHalloweenö blockbuster theme, the guys exitingà sorry, entering the rodeo arenas with the galloping winner ôExitusö, before a string of longer, more ambitious compositions materializes, the heavier technicaller ôInvisibleö pacifying the fiery proceedings with a moderate pensive layout, the ôgallops meet balladö transmogrifier ôTwo/Killerdogö diversifying things to near-power metal proportions; the epically-charged ôExcaliburö raising swords with battle-like determination. The fast-paced hegemony returns with full force with the blistering ôParentslessö and the very appropriately-titled ôTerror Machineö, the semi-technical veneer of the latter not emulated that overtly by the varied proto-galloping trot ôDestructorö and the friendly welcoming optimism of ôBlack Widowö. Misleading song-titles aside, this effort does ring true for most of the time, if we again half-ignore the subdued but still pertinent at times deathly vocal presence, Kugelbauernot not really trying to actually sing anywhere, sticking to hoarse sinister recitals to not very lucrative returns. On the music front he does try to reach the lofty models from his first showing, and succeeds not without the help of a couple of nostalgic points added due to the mentioned references.
