One needs only to give CobraÆs full-length, Sin Dominio del Tiempo, released last October under El SalvadorÆs Morbid Skull Records, a cursory spin in order to fully appreciate Bogotß's burgeoning and bludgeoning speed/blackened thrash metal scene, lest they get slammed against the wall - or through it! - the first time out thanks to the trioÆs pleasingly erosive appeal and detonative, at times arse-stomping grooves and hyperactive lead wails. The Columbians throw down like mad dogs gone whole hog, be it Adrian ManriquesÆ fervid, imposing bass lines and trenchant, serpent-like vocals as they hiss and spit venom all over the place or Mario VillamizarÆs super intense and virulently melodic tremolo shredding magnificently capped by flourishing breakneck leads; Daniel Gonzßlez, for his part, is a beast unleashed with his demented, haywire drumming which compellingly alternates between lightning fast tempos and haltingly grinding downshifts, such as throughout the album masterpiece, ôHacia el Silencio Eternoö (To the Eternal Silence) û notably at mid-point i.e. the excruciatingly drawn out bridge preceding a stunning solo section and festively apocalyptic rundown. Some tracks rip harder than others, like ô Conquista la Autopistaö (Conquer the Highway), as it fiercely tears ahead with an all-out, razor sharp chromatic shred fest highlighted by arresting pull-back riffs which will leave you gasping for air. More evolutionary doomed out dirges such as ôSangre y Honorö (Blood & Honor) or the progressively rampant title track, with its brutalizing and buzzing bass solo paving the way for a further caustic and crafty lead break, allow for variety and a gripping side-winding momentum which never wears thin. Regardless of tempo, every song is permeated with a graying and malefic, foreboding atmosphere û one can readily sense the bandÆs rage and contempt for the powers that be, as well as join in the raucously rendered militant lambasting at hand! Not only does CobraÆs Dominio del Tiempo reprehensibly give the finger to the oppressors who are presently trying to rule their country (once they reach elbow the ride is over!) but also winningly parallels what TheStormIRide meant when he stated: ôcrossover/thrash and speed metal type bands usually sound best when not overcooking or fluffing the album length.
