Kult Of The Skull God surely are not reinventing the wheel, but they have honed their skills to precision and crafted a fine collection of songs. Vocalist Lord Kalidon shares similarities with Myles Kennedy, of Alter Bridge. While a lot of the guitar work seems quite deeply influenced by Slash and Guns NÆ Roses. As I mentioned earlier, there isnÆt really anything fresh or new here. Then again, this is a style of rock that has been well played out, and that must be taken into consideration. It feels as if Kult Of The Skull God are looking to kick-start a rejuvenation; a rock nÆ roll revival or sorts. And more power to them. There is no questioning the skill levels of these three lads. Each of them are well versed and quite well adept at their instruments. There are more than a few solid moments, where the listener is poised to sing along, noggin bobbing to the rhythm. My honest opinion is that Kult Of The Skull God will be a pleasing listen to anybody that is a fan of the genre. There really isnÆt a thing to fault them on û less you consider originality, which in this case, I donÆt. Admittedly though, I adore this style of music. It satisfies my soul. There are moments where the tunes are hard hitting, rock anthems. Replete with grooves and hooks, choruses that demand audience participation. Other times, the tempo slows and leans more towards become a rock ballad. The guitar work is sublime. Often times, musicians that attempt a style such as this, lack the ability to create a proper flow. That is far from the case here. The vocals,as I mentioned, are fantastic. There really is a lot to like on this record. Like a fine Italian automobile û Kult Of The Skull God are a well-oiled machine that fires on all cylinders. ôSeeking a pure rock nÆ roll sound away from the electronic elements of their previous band, Army Of The UniverseÆs vocalist Lord Kalidon and guitarist Davide Tavecchia have returned with Kult of The Skull God. Armed with drummer Joey Amato, they have energized their infrangible attitude and fury. With enough raw talent to save the world from mumble rappers, auto-tuned pop stars, and rock mediocrityö, claims their press release. Whether or not that is the case, will ultimately be determined by the listener. What I can say, though, is that Kult Of The Skull God have the goods to deliver on their promise. If ôThe Great Maginiö had dropped at a time when this style of music was all the rage, there is no telling what their ceiling might have been. Sadly, a select few remain loyal to the rock of the days of yore. Myself among them. I openly admit to having a love for 80s rock and heavy metal. Hopefully bands of this ilk can reignite that flame and bring true rock nÆ rock back to the masses. I hope. Until then, the few, the proud, the faithful û will continue on, with fists pumped towards the sky.
