With the reputation of big names like KREATOR, DESTRUCTION, SODOM, TANKARD, comes another Thrash band from Germany in the name of SCARED TO DEATH. Bringing out their 2nd full length with æFatal DestroyerÆ, the band blasts some tasty Thrash metal for 41 minutes. With heavy riffs and blast beats all around, the album starts in high tempo mode right from the first song ôMind Invadersö, but the riffs sound old and nothing new until the 3rd song ôSuccessorö. While the vocals of Ernst Kramheller are of dirty and nasty raspy style and work just fine for the bandÆs music and IÆm surprised why not many Thrash vocalists use this beautiful style! ItÆs not wrong to say that Ernst Kramheller who handles the guitars as well the vocals, brings out some really great riffs all throughout the album including some cheesy solos and makes the album what it really is. The drums of Stefan Bohmann and the Bass of Felix Kauschinger, though have a few brilliant moments, are largely predictable and boring throughout the album and bring nothing new to the music. ôBatteredö is one of the better songs of the album bringing in cheesy headbang-able, air guitaring riffs. But the album ends with a different sounding ôProgress Deniedö, where the band brings in faster riffs and better placed drums beats. The album is mostly mid tempo and is easy on the ears for regular Thrash fans. While the production is moderate, the lyrics speak mostly of Death, War, and Destruction. The album can be largely classified as riff based Thrash bringing very little new to the table even for the fans who enjoy the same, though some may dig the band for its old school feel. But IÆm afraid in the age where there are far too many riff based Thrash bands SCARED TO DEATH doesnÆt stand out and may be forgotten in the hordes of bands.
