TheyÆve teased the way with singles, and it was worth the wait. A mix of Groove Metal in the vein of Lamb of God meets Death Grind from Napalm Death with solid production, the result is a rather fast, yet enjoyable listen that doesnÆt fire on all cylinders all the time. Bands like Walking Corpse or Caustic Wound can pull it off in their Death Metal ferociousness, but when one goes too fast, it tends to be forgettable. Treasondom do their best to try to make their work memorable yet still æfast music for slow peopleÆ friendly on ôThe Flesh Consumes The Mind.ö Opening with the crushing æEveryone is Dead or DyingàÆ the Behemoth styled Grind attack is typical in Napalm Death fashion, complete with a whirlwind of guitars from Patek and Bako as they trade vocals (both sound similar but one is a bit rougher than the other) to lead the charge. Unfortunately one tracks like these the bass from (ironically another Bako) is lost in the mix, but the drums from Szabo keeps its sound above water, and they thump hard. Not with the Rotting Christ styled percussive booms but more the artillery shell fire of Abysmal Dawn. The bass thankfully shows better more on the mid paced Groove Metal styled tracks laced with Death Grind such as on the title track and æThe Growing DistanceÆ which is anthemic, charging, and refuses to slow down in its pace but still has some restraint so one doesnÆt feel like they are being trampled with it (like doing a circle pit versus a wall of death in the pit). Tracks like these are less Death Grind toned but have that catchy Lamb of God nods that might be more popular among those who donÆt like their music as noisy as bands like Rotten Sound can crank out. There is also the slow moody breathers like æRites of LossÆ which serve a great pause in grim, Doom Metal fashion touched with Groove Metal. Opposite of that but equally short, the Napalm Death elements reign supreme with æCathedral for ThievesÆ which is vocals and riff bludgeoning galore, and the near Bezerker level drumming on æRevolution Eats its ChildrenÆ is like a grinding machine that chews and spits up all in its path, even the tasteful grooves canÆt save it although that crackling D-beat bass notes seem to keep up well enough. For those who like their Grooove/ Death Grind raw as possible, this is the track for them. æProgress?Æ has a fun bounce to it despite the lyrics, and æNo Shores at the EndÆ offers up a final slab of Groove Metal mentality with the vocals keeping thing mostly in the Death Grind camp, but from the smatter of drums among the vocals which continue to stay understandable in their bellows/ barks, one can say compared to GrindÆs usual focus on the vocals being as noisy as possible, Treasondom do their listeners a service by mostly making them understandable and digestible, especially for those not used to the genre. As a result, ôThe Flesh Consumes The Mindö is another happy entry point album for new fans of the Death Grind genre and solid staple that should leave listeners wanting more between frenzied moshing and catchy stand-and-full-headbang motions that make Treasondom a band to watch for in the future. Not quite commercially predictable but also not quite filthy underground that Defense Records canÆt opt to make them one of their flagship bands as their sound appeals to more than less.
